Your new role

For many years now, the Diocese of Apartadó has been promoting the development of a culture of peace and supporting victims of the armed conflict in Colombia. In light of current reconciliation efforts, the social work and pastoral counselling are aimed at supporting community processes to promote truth and social justice. In particular, it strengthens indigenous, Afro-Colombian and farming communities.
One measure of its peace work consists of helping those affected process their experiences through psychosocial contact points. Their aim is to establish a network of contact points (Centros de Escucha) with socially committed volunteers from the communities. The psychosocial support is to be based on listening, attention and collective processing, while also including artistic elements (e.g., theatre, music, poetry, mural painting). Specifically, you will carry out the following tasks:

• You will contribute to the establishment of contact points for psychosocial support for affected persons in the region for which the Diocese is responsible and promote the methodical and professional development.
• You will conceive and provide further training to the volunteers of the contact points on psychosocial support, in dealing with victims of violence and accompany them as an advisor in stress management and dealing with stressful situations.
• You will contribute to systematisation of the project of psychosocial support.
• You will promote local networking and cooperation among organisations and institutions, and accompany the resulting initiatives to help people process and come to terms with the past.
• You will be responsible for the proper spending and management of funds locally in accordance with the donor and AGIAMONDO guidelines. In doing so, you will work in partnership with the diocese of Apartadó.

Your profile

• You have a university degree in psychology, pedagogy, social work, educational sciences or any other field relevant to the job with additional therapeutic qualification and applied knowledge in professional reflection (e.g. collegial coaching, supervision).
• You are familiar with methods of processing and remembering and have at least three years of experience in human rights work and psychosocial care for victims of violence in various contexts, preferably in Latin America.
• You have fluent Spanish skills and are able to communicate about sensitive content to your target group.
• You are mentally and physically resilient as well as willing to travel regularly to rural regions of Colombia.  
• You can act appropriately in a church environment and identify with the goals and concerns of church development and peace work. You are familiar with the principles of Catholic social teachings.
• You are an EU or Swiss citizen.

Currently, many of our development workers work from home. Some of them had to leave their places of work temporarily and stay in their home countries. Whether and when development workers can work on the ground on projects again, we will decide in each individual case responsibly and together with the partners.
