AGIAMONDO is the personnel service of the German Catholics for Development Cooperation. In the Civil Peace Service (CPS) we offer development workers a meaningful role working with local development agents. The CPS is a personnel programme for peace-building and the prevention of violence in crisis and conflict regions. It sets out to promote a world in which conflicts are settled without violence. Working with church-related and civil-social partner organisations in Timor-Leste, AGIAMONDO aims to make a contribution towards civil conflict management and the sustainable and equitable development of the country through peace-building measures

Your new role

19 years after the formal founding of the state, the process of nation building in Timor-Leste is still not fully completed. Various fields of conflict form settings for different conflict and violence dynamics. Many civil organisations work together to strengthen discursive and communicative conflict management skills at the individual and societal level.
Radio Lian Matebean (RLM) has been one of the most ambitious community radios in rural Timor-Leste since it was established in 2002. The aim is to have a lasting impact on the listeners in the country by disseminating the basic principles of peace journalism.

Specifically, you will carry out the following tasks:

  • You will support the team in the development and implementation of new programme formats (e.g. magazine programmes, features, live broadcasts, etc.) with a special focus on the basic principles and impact of peace journalism.
  • You will develop and conduct appropriate in-house training and coaching.
  • You will support the team in the conception and implementation of appropriate, conflict-sensitive measures to increase community participation and listener loyalty, and conduct listener surveys and reach analyses.
  • You will support RLM in financial management, fundraising and marketing, as well as reporting, to further strengthen editorial independence.
  • You will be responsible for the proper spending and management of funds locally in accordance with the donor and AGIAMONDO guidelines. In doing so, you will work in partnership with RLM.

Your profile

  • You have completed a university degree in journalism, media sciences, or in a similar humanities/social sciences subject, and have acquired several years of professional experience in this field, ideally outside of Europe as well.
  • Ideally, you have already developed and conducted training courses in the field of communication.
  • You have knowledge of organisational development, empirical social research, listener studies and social media.
  • You possess strong social and communication skills, enjoy working as part of a team and show initiative and a talent for improvisation.
  • You have a strong command of English, verbally and in writing, and have a talent for languages. You are willing to learn the national and working language Tetum.
  • You identify with the goals and concerns of church development and peace-building work with a strong sense of conviction.
  • You are an EU or Swiss citizen.
