Responsible and Challenging

AGIAMONDO e.V. is the personnel service of German Catholics for development cooperation. In the Civil Peace Service, we offer professionals the opportunity for meaningful service in cooperation with local development actors. The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a personnel program for violence prevention and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. It is committed to a world in which conflicts are resolved without violence. Together with church and civil society partner organizations in Cameroon, AGIAMONDO aims to make a contribution to civil conflict resolution and sustainable, equitable development in the country through peace-building measures.

The CPS country programme in Cameroon supports non-violent conflict resolution through dialogue and mediation. Partner organisations accompany acute conflicts over land and resources at community level and involve government agencies in sustainable solutions. Peace education and dispute resolution are also integrated into school curricula.

The partner organisation CDJP Bafia focuses on the social aspects of land conflicts. These not only concern land ownership, but also reflect social tensions. Factors such as ethnic, religious and linguistic diversity, traditional structures and poverty contribute to the conflict dynamics. The organisation works to strengthen relationships within and between communities and to promote long-term solutions.

As a small organisation, the CDJP Bafia offers room for manoeuvre. Bafia is located around 20 kilometres from the capital Yaoundé and can be reached via a tarmac road. The location is suitable for families with children, but there are no international schools. Power cuts can occasionally lead to water shortages. Various hospitals are available, for serious cases a transfer to Yaoundé is possible. Sports facilities and some tourist sites are available, but churches characterise the cultural life of the city.
