Social scientist for peace promotion and psychosocial work in community projects (m/f/x)
Your tasks
- Together with the partners, you will analyse needs in mental health, trauma processing, and psychosocial support.
- You will strengthen the teams in trauma-sensitive approaches, stress management, and community-based support formats.
- You will develop training sessions and support processes for peacebuilding, conflict transformation, and dealing with the past.
- You will support community dialogues, peace education, and initiatives for social cohesion.
- You will promote cross-border activities between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, involving young people, women, and religious stakeholders.
- You will strengthen the partners' PMEL/APME systems to improve impact, documentation, and quality.
- You will support fundraising, advocacy, and networking.
- You will ensure knowledge transfer, regular reflection, and a context-sensitive approach to work.
- You will be responsible for the proper disbursement and administration of funds on site in accordance with the sponsor guidelines and AGIAMONDO specifications. In this capacity, you will work in close collaboration with the team members of the partner organisation.
Your profile
- You have a university degree (master's or higher) in peace and conflict studies, social or political sciences, psychology, project management, or a related subject.
- You possess in-depth knowledge of peacebuilding, conflict transformation, and community-based approaches.
- You have proven experience in psychosocial support and trauma-sensitive work.
- You have solid knowledge of project management, organizational development, and capacity development.
- You have professional experience in fragile or post-conflict contexts, ideally in the African Great Lakes region.
- You are fluent in French and have a good command of English. Kiswahili is advantageous.
- You possess intercultural sensitivity, teamwork skills, self-reflection, and emotional resilience.
- You work in a structured, self-organized, and safety-conscious manner, even when travelling to volatile areas.
- You have a valid driver's license and sufficient driving experience.
- You identify with Christian values and with the goals as well as the concerns of church development and peace work.

AGIAMONDO e. V. is the personnel service of German Catholics for development cooperation. In the Civil Peace Service, we offer professionals the opportunity for meaningful service in cooperation with local development actors. The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a personnel program for violence prevention and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. It is committed to a world in which conflicts are resolved without violence.
In the countries the CPS has been supporting civil society organisations for many years in developing non-violent conflict resolution, strengthening human rights and supporting traumatised communities. The work of the ZFD is based on partnership, trust and long-term commitment. Experts contribute their expertise, learn from local experiences and help to strengthen structures for peaceful coexistence.
CDJP Cyangugu is the Commission for Justice and Peace of the Catholic Diocese of Cyangugu. It is committed to promoting peace, social justice, conflict prevention, and strengthening civil society. The partners work closely with communities, young people, women's and religious networks in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their programs address trauma, social fragmentation, and the challenges of cross-border coexistence. You will live and work in Cyangugu (Kamembe), Rwanda, a relatively stable location with a peaceful environment on Lake Kivu, acceptable living standards, and basic infrastructure such as markets, health services, and transportation. The working environment at CDJP Cyangugu is professional, well-organized, and cooperative.
You will regularly take trips to Bukavu and Goma in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. These cities continue to be characterized by insecurity, political instability, and humanitarian challenges. Movements require careful safety checks and compliance with existing protocols.
Due to the security situation, mobility requirements, and limited international school options, the location is not suitable for families with children.
